Barney Ford
With Paraclete Mission Group, Barney Ford provides spiritual direction, spiritual formation and executive coaching.
After becoming a Christian at the age of 19, Barney felt called of God to full-time ministry as he read John 20:21. This call began over 46 years of ministry with university students in both InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and the global ministry, the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
Barney began working as a campus staff worker for the schools of Western Ohio and Eastern Indiana. He focused on teaching the scriptures, chapter building and training in evangelism, discipleship and missions. He then spent the following years in various stages of leadership within InterVarsity including three years as InterVarsity’s area director for Ohio, three years as state director for Michigan, director for new staff orientation, director of campus ministry with responsibilities for half of InterVarsity’s student work in the United States, and one year of study at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena.
In 1986, he moved with his family to Madison, Wisconsin where he began his position as InterVarsity’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, serving with president Steve Hayner until 1998. Barney also served as the director for Urbana 2000, board chair for the IFES executive committee from 1995 to 2003, VP and director of strategic ministries until 2007, and the VP and director of advancement until 2011. From 2011 until retiring from InterVarsity in 2016, Barney served as executive coach and spiritual formation specialist.
He is also a past board chair for JourneyMates, a spiritual formation ministry headquartered in Raleigh. He is a recent member of the faculty for the Integrated Missions Leadership program of the Oxford Centre for Missions Studies.
The Fords make their home in Raleigh, North Carolina. They have three grown daughters and seven grandchildren.
