Joyce George
Joyce (Abbey) George was born to missionary parents, Wilbur and Dorothy Abbey, who served on the mission field in Brazil, South America under New Tribes Mission. She graduated from Puraquequara, a boarding school on the banks of the Amazon River just a few miles from Manaus, Brazil. After returning to the US, she attended New Tribes Bible Institute in Jackson, Michigan with the intention of returning to Brazil as a missionary. However, God had other plans for her. She married and began a family in Michigan, and then a job transfer moved them to NC in 1986.
In 1992 Joyce and her (ex)husband co-founded Siloam Missionary Homes and she served as office manager for SMH until she retired on October 31, 2025. On its 34 acres with 14 homes, Siloam Missionary Homes has provided temporary housing to over 400 missionary families from more than 100 countries.
She has two daughters, a son-in-law, and three adult grandchildren.
Joyce is also a certified ESL teacher and has taught in the US as well as Thailand.
Joyce says, “After more than 30 years of listening to missionary women share their stories, I’ve seen how often loneliness and burnout quietly take root – even in women faithfully serving around the world. Many don’t have a safe woman to talk to, whether they’re overseas or back in the States. I believe the Lord is now calling me to go to them, wherever they are, and offer what so many have longed for: a trusted listener, Bible study and biblical encouragement, prayer and emotional support. My desire is to help missionary women remain healthy and strengthened so they can thrive in their homes and in the calling that God has placed on their lives.”
