Karl Baker
Karl partners with local and global church leaders in facilitating theological training in Africa and Asia. Through learning communities centered on biblical interpretation and discipleship, participants study scripture, discuss its implications in their lives and their faith communities, and develop ministry skills. Karl’s path to this ministry was jumpstarted seven years ago when a lay leader in his church invited him to co-lead an adult Sunday school class. Honored and excited, Karl was soon pouring over scripture and scholarly articles. He sought to grasp and then pass on to his class the joy he found in Bible study. A budding desire to teach the Bible overseas led him to enroll in a master’s in theology program at Fuller Theological Seminary.
Soon after graduating with his degree, Karl and his wife, Evelyn, took a vision trip to Africa. They taught inductive Bible study methods to lay leaders in Malawi and indigenous missionaries in Uganda. The positive reception and the opportunities presented by church leaders helped confirm Karl’s sense of calling.
Karl serves through iTEE University and Global Link Afrika (GLA). He develops curriculum and conducts in-person courses for GLA. As he trains to become an online facilitator, he helps publish local language translations of iTEE courses. Courses now exist in Maa (the language of the Masai people of Kenya), Chichewa, Russian, Spanish, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, and many others. He enjoys daily class discussions with kingdom workers from across Africa and Asia. God led Karl to prepare for this type of work and now, as a Paraclete associate, he is excited for all that God has in store.
