Michael and Christie Stalcup
Michael and Christie Stalcup have lived and served in Bangkok, Thailand since 2016.
After serving eight years as a full-time college minister with InterVarsity USA and IFES Thailand, Michael now works to gather, support, and empower Christian artists in Thailand and beyond. He draws on his education in theology and the arts (including a master’s thesis on the vocation of artists), his experience as a published poet (michaelstalcup.com), and years of teaching artists to integrate their spiritual formation and artistic craft. Michael believes that contextualized art plays an important role in evangelism and discipleship.
In the U.S., Christie worked as an attorney in the spheres of disability rights and immigration. When she moved to Bangkok in 2016, she prayed for opportunities to use her legal background to address justice issues in Thailand. She has had many opportunities to do this through direct legal representation with refugees and asylum seekers, and through national advocacy in the spheres of child protection and migrant workers’ rights. Christie grew up in Portugal, Illinois, and Colorado.
Michael and Christie have three kids, Grace, Cora, and Isaiah. They enjoy eating Thai food, making each other laugh, playing board games, hiking, and hanging out with friends from all over the world.
